In today’s VLOG video: I am wearing a pink vintage dress, I am using a retro classic folding plate camera and I am taking pictures in a field of Hyacinths in Noordwijkerhout.
Noordwijkerhout is a village in the bulb region, in the Dutch municipality of Noordwijk, in the province of South Holland in the Netherlands.

If I was living one hundred and fifty years ago, what would I do? How would my life look like?
It’s fascinating. A progressive time era, of many discoveries and inventions, where men discovered many new things that seem to be normal to us now, like the discovery of X-Rays by Wilhelm Röntgen in 1895 and the discovery of radioactivity by Henri Becquerel in 1896. What an exciting time era full of fun and optimism.

I would probably still be walking in a field of flowers, pink Hyacinths maybe or red Tulips, wearing a beautiful dress, making pictures of the landscape. Although the colours of the fields of flowers are marvellous, there’s something about a black and white scene that gives it a nostalgic feeling. I like the classy atmosphere of it.

I am holding a vintage portable folding plate camera. These kind of cameras were mostly used between the 1890s to 1930s. A folding camera is a camera with bellows that can be folded, so that the camera is smaller in size when you don’t use it, which makes it more practical. There must be many intriguing historical stories behind this camera and I wonder what the camera has captured in that time. Where are those pictures?

There’s no brand name on the camera, but the objective describes a RHACO Doppel Anastigmat 1:4,5 135 mm lens. It’s a medium telephoto lens from a German manufacturer and the camera would probably be a great one for portrait photography.

When I was holding this retro folding plate camera, I was curious about how it works, because during the photo shoot, I didn’t see a viewfinder and also not a press button. I wasn’t holding it properly, but afterwards I saw the shutter button on the front of the camera to take the picture with. It made me curious about the camera. If you could really take pictures with it, what would the images look like?

It is probably a hard thing to do, because how are you going to develop the pictures in this digital age? You have to find a person that is specialised in this kind of photography artwork.
I also don’t think that there is a film roll in the camera, but instead, it works with an old-fashioned glass plate to record the image. What are we talking about anyway? This camera is almost one hundred years old! Going way back in time, it’s just too old to make it work. An antique camera that looks good on the shelf, but still, I like the idea of it.

You can see me taking pictures with the retro folding plate camera in my VLOG video.
The pink vintage dress fits perfectly with the settings and the colourful Hyacinths look very good in black and white.
