Background story Hawaii Poké Bowl

Hawaii Poké Bowl Rotterdam is open in April 2021. In addition, there is another location at Spuistraat 60 in The Hague that has been opened in December 2019. Currently, Hawaii Poké Bowl has five owners, some of whom were born and raised in Rotterdam and a few others from abroad.

Hawaii Poke Bowl

The poké bowl is a dish originally from Hawaii with tropical ingredients such as fish and mix-ings such as seaweed. At Hawaii Poké Bowl they want to keep the poké bowl as close to the original recipe as possible. The concept is: a beautiful poké bowl, richly filled and full of flavour, where you can choose from the flavors yourself. Many different variations and flavors are possible.

Poké bowl is sushi in a bowl. You can choose the base yourself, but the original is rice. The rice is warm, but you can also use a cold salad as a base. In addition to the rice, you have ingredients that you can choose yourself. For example, you can choose cucumber, red cabbage, surimi sticks and seaweed salad. There is always a protein such as salmon, tuna, tofu, shrimp or chicken. Vegan compositions are also possible.

You can see poké bowl as a menu, which is quite filling, especially when you look at the sizes they offer (regular and large). Rice is particularly filling and five mixes are also given, such as avocado, baby corn, broccoli, mango and red cabbage. You can choose a sauce with it such as Chilli Mayo, Sesame Dressing and Wasabi Soy Sauce. In addition, you can choose three toppings such as fried onions, masago and nachos.

Customer’s Favorite

The most popular poké bowl is the Salmon Style Bowl and people who don’t like raw fish usually choose the Pulled Chicken Bowl right away.

Interior

The interior of Hawaii Poké Bowl is tropically decorated with lots of greenery, bright colors and neon lighting. The interior attracts many people as a kind of eye candy. It gives you a tropical feeling, the Hawaiian feeling.

The colorful graffiti on the wall was made by a Dutch artist who made the graffiti in both Rotterdam and The Hague.

Our Hawaii Poké Bowl experience

We sit outside on the terras with our beautiful Hawaii Poké Bowls and side dishes laid out on the table. Each and every one of the dishes are beautiful colorful creations. We notice that just as bees are attracted to fragrant flowers, the Hawaii Poké Bowls attract many hungry passers-by, who pause to look at them and give compliments, then go inside themselves to put together their own Hawaii Poké Bowls.

The police officers of Rotterdam Oude Westen are also attracted by the colorful Hawaii Poké Bowls and join us at our table for a bite to eat. They think the food tastes delicious! We have chosen our own toppings, which makes the Salmon Style Bowl a bit too spicy for police officer Rob, his colleague police officer John, on the other hand, really likes the spicy taste.

That’s the beauty of Hawaii Poké Bowl, you can choose the flavors you like best. I wanted a poké bowl with salmon and not spicy, while my friend likes the spicy version better. The Salmon Style Bowl is therefore half spicy and half not spicy, so it tasted delicious for both of us! An extensive Hawaii Poké Bowl table lends itself extremely well to shared dining.
