In today’s VLOG video: Together with nine other ladies, I was invited by Wendy Troost and her collegue for an influencer lunch at Italian restaurant L’Osteria at the Grote Markt 16 in The Hague, The Netherlands. The manager of L’Osteria, called Tom, was going to tell us about L’Osteria. He told us who they are and what they do and also what the food would look like. For the people who liked it, he gave a tour of the restaurant. Tom’s story about L’Osteria starts here.

Tom’s story:

Welcome everyone. I am Tom. I’ve been here at L’Osteria for about three years now.

We started three and a half years ago in Amsterdam. There’s a very large terrace, a hundred seats and inside it’s very different from this. It’s a bit smaller, but still the Italian atmosphere that we are trying to create. I think that is also our difference with many other places. Inside you will immediately see; a beautiful design, sleek, but prices that are simply accessible with products directly from Italy.

Those large coasters that you see on the table here are also the size of our pizzas. Things always go well there. The moment someone orders pizza and you put it on the table, everyone looks; “gosh what do we get for a large pizza!” Most think they can’t finish it, but eventually they do, because it just tastes good and otherwise it goes home in a doggy bag.

Question: Are those pizzas really meant for sharing or are they really for one person?
Answer: Both can. You can also top each half of all pizzas differently. You can make any combination you want. That is how it will actually be served later, because there are a lot of people who indeed take two flavors, put them on two plates and divide it. Others just take it for themselves, and what I said, it’s always amazing how people at the end still eating the whole pizza.

Question: Does it have a thin bottom?
Answer: Yes, a thin bottom. The pizzas are based on pizzas from Rome and not the thicker ones from Napoli. We make the pastas, salads and dolcis ourselves, and we also make the dough every day. We get the products from Italy. We make our own tomato sauce.

This is with fish and Norway prawns and on the right with anchovies.

Would you also like to see inside? Do a tour inside. Yes?
In terms of atmosphere, we really want to create something, and not just be a restaurant with a few tables, but really make something beautiful out of it. We also, always have an open kitchen, so that everyone can see what happens with the food and whether it is freshly prepared.

What is especially unique about this location is our bar in the middle. If it’s not clear, you can also come here for a drink, and not just a pizza.

The menu as it will look today. Everything is just put on the table so that everyone can share. Just like in Italy, it will be too much food for the number of people there are, because it is better to have a little too much food than too little. Don’t be scared if there is no room on the table there. That’s actually kind of the intention, that everyone can taste everything a little, and enjoy it. That’s how we always do it for the guests. The tables are actually all just a bit too small, so the food just doesn’t fit on it.

Eat well soon everyone. Thank you for being there and most of all, enjoy the food in a moment. Thank you.

Menu Della Casa

For lunch, we had a four course menu. They gave each of us the menu with our name on it, so we could see what they would serve us today.

ANTIPASTI
Antipasti plate | Bruschetta | Insalata Caprese | Carpaccio

PASTA
Mezzalun Spinaci | Orecchiette di Manzo al Limone | Granchi di Fiume

PIZZA
Caprese | Vegetariana | Gamberetti | Cip & Cop | Parmigiana | Rustica

DOLCI
Tiramisu | Panna Cotta | Crema di Fragola | Limoncello

The food tasted all delicious, but like Tom said, there was much more food on the table than we could all eat together. We were happy to get a doggy back afterwards, to enjoy the food later, while at home.

The pizzas were huge! It was a great sight, to see all those pizzas being put on the table. The pizzas were bigger than the plate itself. We tasted different slices of each pizza. Some pizzas had different toppings on each half, so you could choose the flavor that you liked.

It was fun to have a shared dining lunch like this. It was my first time having an influencer lunch and I think it was great. I met a lot of beautiful people and tasted many different Italian tastes. The pastas were freshly made and now I know what they really mean with ‘al dente’. The homemade pasta at L’Osteria tasted firm, it had that nice Italian bite when you ate it.

The interior of L’Osteria was amazing, it had a very unique atmosphere.
Did you spot the tiny Virgin Mary?
There’s a Virgin Mary statue on the wall above the stairs, but besides this big one, there’s a tiny one inside L’Osteria, giving it that Roman atmosphere (with a wink), combined with a sleek industrial designed interior.
