Watch my VLOG video here: The Hague | Voco The Hague – A night at the Luxury Hotel with diner and breakfast

An eco-friendly hotel at the heart of The Hague, where you will be welcomed and guided by more than fifteen hundred butterflies that whirl around. After having a plant-based inspired diner in the characterful restaurant Botanica you can let your hair down, socialise and sip cocktails at the lively Ultramarijn Wonderbar.
When night falls, you can unwind and have some “me time” in your comfy hotel room, sleep well at your bed with cosy bedding and enjoy a delicious full breakfast in the morning. What a wonderful stay at Voco Hotel The Hague.

Upon entering Voco The Hague, the classy interior style immediately catches the eye. Beautiful light in the atrium with lots of greenery and a tree in the middle, dark blue colors at the reception, all sleek and stylish.

Voco Hotel used to be the former ABN Amro bank and has now been transformed into a luxury four star hotel with two hundred and four rooms. Voco Hotel opened its doors in June 2021.

Guided Hotel Tour

When we arrive at Voco The Hague, we get a warm welcome from Bodil, a lovely classy lady with a beautiful Scandinavian name. Bodil gives us a guided tour through the hotel.

Work play area
Bodil shows us the work play area. This is actually the disguised business center, how we used to know it from hotels. You can bring your laptop and do workings, have a sit or play some games. All the locals are welcome here as well. If you haven an appointment outside and you don’t want to do it in the office, everyone can come here to spend the day outside the office. You can also rent this room as a boardroom.

The Atrium
Fifteen hundred butterflies lead you to the Atrium. Seeing all those beautiful butterflies gives you a great awareness of these vibrant colorful insects. Butterflies pollinate flowers and indicate a healthy ecosystem. Forty five hotel rooms are facing the Atrium.

Ultramarijn Wonderbar

The interior of Ultramarijn Wonderbar is inspired by the steampunk, seafaring and overseas adventure. Steampunk is a style of science fiction inspired by 19th century old machinery like steam power. At Ultramarijn Wonderbar you can have coffee or cocktails, alongside breakfast or bites.

Above deck (upstairs) there’s a cocktail bar inspired by rum with all kinds of different types of rum.
Below deck (downstairs) there’s the old vault, an original vault that is almost a hundred years old.

Opening times
Ultramarijn bar is every day open from 4 pm to midnight.

Restaurant Botanica

Entrance at Noordeinde
At the back of the hotel at Noordeinde you can enter restaurant Botanica, where not only hotel guests, but also all locals are welcome. The parking garage Noordeinde is underneath the hotel. You walk through their city garden, an oasis of rest, which leads you to restaurant Botanica.

Welcome cocktail
We get a nice fresh welcome cocktail, an aperitif of an orange syrup they make themselves. There’s vodka in it, cranberry bitters, and they topped it off with an Indian tonic.

Nature served on a plate
The menu of restaurant Botanica is very plant based, inspired by vegetables, but not vegan. There are many ways to prepare vegetables. They also have a great steak, but the vegetable is like the heart of the menu. They focus more on proteins than on meat. The products are organic, sustainable, and locally sourced. The menu is designed to be shared.

The Josper oven
We have a nice little portion of roasted vegetables. The grilled vegetables are prepared with the Josper oven. When vegetables are smoked and grilled, it takes on a smoky flavor with a slightly fuller taste. They often get very good remarks about it.

We also have the purple cauliflower, a nice striploin with the capers, an eggplant with mustard seeds and herbs on top and the Painted Lady. Then we also have the cod and finally we have a small piece of the beetroot carpaccio.

Alcohol-free cocktails
We drink the ‘Basil Sour’, a super tasty alcohol-free gin and the ‘Can You Peer Me’, a cocktail based on pears and alcohol-free gin.

The Rooms

Room with a view
Our room is on the third floor and our card to activate the elevator to go up only have authorization to go to the third floor. With Bodil we are going to the fifth floor, where she shows us a room with a view. You can’t go on the balcony, but from the window we have a nice view over the center of The Hague. The rooms on the sixth floor have a top view, but we can’t go there now.

Suite
We have a spacious suite on the third floor with lots of windows. As you enter the room there is a living room with a cozy sofa that converts into a bed for extra guests and there is a separate sleeping area with a king size bed and a bathroom with a rain shower. If you look outside through the windows, you can see the houses and backyards of the Royal Quarter, giving you the feeling of being in the middle of The Hague.

Me time
It’s very relaxed to retreat to your own hotel room, enjoy a warm shower under the rain shower, and then curl up under the cosy blankets to go to sleep. It surprises me that it is very quiet in the room, you do not have the idea that you are in the middle of the bustling city. The next morning you will feel rejuvenated after a wonderful night’s sleep.

Breakfast in bed
How wonderful it is to enjoy breakfast in bed. The breakfast at Voco The Hague is super extensive and tastes delicious. The ultimate ‘me time’!
