Innsbruck Outings

Swarovski Crystal Worlds | 16 Chambers of Wonder

Are you in Innsbruck and looking for a special outing? Then a visit to Swarovski Crystal Worlds is definitely worth it. With the 16 Chambers of Wonder, you step into a world of art, light, and crystal. It’s not a standard museum, but a true immersive experience.

Where is Swarovski Crystal Worlds located?

Swarovski Crystal Worlds is located about 20 kilometers from Innsbruck, in the village of Wattens. It’s easy to reach by bus. From Innsbruck, I took bus 650 and after 21 stops, in about 45 minutes I arrived. When I arrived in December in the afternoon, it was fairly quiet. I had already bought my ticket online, so I could walk straight in. At the time of my visit, I received a €2 discount with the Welcome Card and paid €24 for my ticket. At the entrance, I received a map of the museum. In total, there are 16 chambers, as well as a large park, a restaurant & café, and a shop.

The history of Swarovski

Swarovski has existed since 1895 and was founded by Daniel Swarovski. To celebrate its 100th anniversary, the Swarovski Crystal Worlds park was opened in 1995. The exhibition was conceived by André Heller and uniquely combines art, design, and crystal.

The Giant

Upon arrival, you are immediately welcomed by The Giant. A waterfall flows from his mouth, with the mountains in the background, an impressive sight. The exhibition itself is located inside this giant. When you view the giant from the side and see people walking in, it almost looks as if they are being swallowed. As if you are truly stepping into his mouth. From here, the journey through the 16 Chambers of Wonder begins.

16 Chambers of Wonder

Each chamber is an experience in itself. The artworks are inspired by Swarovski crystal or actually contain Swarovski crystals. All chambers have their own theme and are designed by internationally renowned artists and architects.

Silent Light

Here is no cloakroom, but you absolutely need your jacket. In the Silent Light chamber, you step into a true winter wonderland. An icy space with snow, ice, an igloo, and a white pine tree. It really is about 5 to 10 degrees below zero here. You can experience winter here all year round. This was one of my favorite chambers. I love winter, and for a moment it felt like I was standing in the middle of a snowy landscape again, just like on the Top of Innsbruck.

Crystaldome

In the Crystaldome, it feels as if you are walking inside a crystal. You are reflected from all sides by shimmering mirrors. Sounds, colors, and light constantly change. It almost feels like you become part of the artwork yourself.

Calm and Well-Organized

It was fairly quiet during my visit, which I really appreciated. You can explore and experience the chambers at your own pace. The route is one-way, so you naturally move on to the next chamber. I didn’t use the map and only realized afterward that I had missed one chamber: Chandelier of Grief. Sometimes you need to open a door yourself, and it’s possible I simply walked past it. All the more reason to come back again.

Shop, Café, and Restaurant

At the end of the route, you exit through the Swarovski Store, where you can buy jewelry and souvenirs. There is also a café and restaurant with its own patisserie, a nice place to sit and relax after your visit.

The Swarovski Crystal Worlds Park

After the museum, I explored the adjacent park. You could easily spend hours here as well. Artworks and installations are scattered throughout the park. The highlight is the Crystal Cloud & Mirror Pool: a cloud-like structure above a black reflective pool, made of no fewer than 800,000 handmade Swarovski crystals. The light, water, and reflections make this artwork incredibly impressive.

Conclusion

You can easily spend an entire day at Swarovski Crystal Worlds. I didn’t see everything: I missed one chamber, and the park alone deserves extra time. A good reason to come back again. Swarovski Crystal Worlds is a unique excursion from Innsbruck and a wonderful combination of nature and culture.
