Grand Hotel Amrâth Kurhaus. If you’ve ever been to Scheveningen, chances are you’ve seen the majestic Grand Hotel Amrâth Kurhaus on the boulevard. This iconic building exudes an allure, that makes you curious about what it would be like to stay there. For a long time, it was on my list to visit this hotel. The time has finally come, and in this blog I share my experiences with you.
The Grand Hotel Amrâth Kurhaus
The Grand Hotel Amrâth Kurhaus, located in a monumental building from 1818, offers pure luxury. This five-star hotel on the Scheveningen beach features two hundred and seventy rooms, including eight spacious suites. There are ten meeting and event rooms, including the impressive Kurzaal. For relaxation, you can visit the Spa & Beauty. The hotel also has a large terrace with stunning views of the boulevard and the North Sea.
Upon arrival, we were kindly received at the reception. On the way to our hotel room, we passed artworks from various museums in The Hague. We took the elevator to the top floor. Our room was located in the right wing of the hotel.
The Hotel Rooms at the Grand Hotel Amrâth Kurhaus
The Grand Hotel Amrâth Kurhaus offers various room types with sea view or land view. These include Superior rooms, Executive rooms on the top floor, Family rooms, Land View Suites, Sea View Suites, and even a Presidential Suite. We stayed in an Executive room with a sea view.
The Executive room was equipped with a double bed, a desk, Wi-Fi, a flatscreen TV, two armchairs, a wardrobe, a minibar and a coffee machine with coffee and tea. Upon arrival, hotel slippers and a bathrobe were ready for us, which was a nice welcome. The bathroom had a toilet, shower and bathtub. The balcony offered a side view of the Scheveningen boulevard, where we could see the Pier with the Ferris wheel and bungee jump tower. Even two seagulls came to welcome us on the balcony.
The hotel room was neat, but a bit smaller than expected. The classic grandeur of the Kurhaus was subtly present, which gave the room a cozy atmosphere. A table by the armchairs would have been useful for enjoying breakfast in the hotel room, but overall, it was a comfortable place to stay.
The Interior of the Grand Hotel Amrâth Kurhaus
The most impressive aspect of the Grand Hotel Amrâth Kurhaus is the interior. The majestic Kurzaal is especially a feast for the eyes, with artworks displayed throughout the room. However, the ceiling is the real showpiece, with ornate paintings that emphasize the grandeur of the hotel.
Although we didn’t have time to use the Spa & Wellness or the swimming pool, this is certainly a plus for guests who want to relax.
Comfort and Breakfast
The hotel room could get a bit warm, especially on sunny summer days. Fortunately, the air conditioning ensured that we could sleep comfortably. Breakfast was served in a large hall, where an extensive buffet offered a wide selection of dishes.
Accessibility
The Grand Hotel Amrâth Kurhaus is easily accessible from the center of The Hague, whether by public transport, car, or bicycle. The trip takes about fifteen minutes. The hotel has its own parking lot, but please note: parking is subject to availability and cannot be reserved in advance. There are also plenty of public parking options nearby.
For those traveling by public transport, several trams and buses stop in front of the hotel. From The Hague Central Station, you can take tram 9 towards Scheveningen. From The Hague Hollands Spoor Station, tram lines 1 and 9 also head towards the beach. Get off at the Kurhaus stop, and you’ll be practically at the hotel’s doorstep.
My Experience
The best thing about the Grand Hotel Amrâth Kurhaus is undoubtedly the location. Within a few steps, you will be on the beach, where you can enjoy an early morning walk or the beautiful sunset. The sound of the sea in the background as you sleep is wonderfully soothing. Scheveningen also offers plenty of activities for a wonderful stay.
Our Executive room with a balcony and sea view was amazing and I would definitely recommend booking a stay here.
