Botanic Gardens of Bonn, Germany. In the middle of the hustle and bustle of the city of Bonn lies an oasis of tranquility and greenery: the Botanic Gardens of the University of Bonn. As a nature lover, I decided to take a different route this time and explore the beauty of nature within the city limits. It is a place where you can escape the hectic pace of everyday life. In this blog I will tell you more about my visit to the Botanic Gardens of Bonn, where I experienced the beautiful flora and serene atmosphere.

A Worldwide Collection
The Botanic Gardens of the University of Bonn are home to an impressive collection of approximately ten thousand plant species from three hundred eighty-eight plant families, originating from all over the world. These gardens serve not only as a place of beauty and tranquility but also as an important center for research and education. Plants from all over the world are studied and preserved here.
A Tropical Exploration in the Greenhouse
Upon entering the greenhouse of the botanical gardens, I felt like I was in the tropics for a moment. The air was warm and humid. There were many lush green plants, such as banana trees with clusters of bananas. The green surroundings of tropical plants brought back memories of my travels to exotic places. Somehow, I felt ‘senang’ in this environment. Almost as if I were back in Indonesia. The regularly misted water droplets created a mystical atmosphere, making it seem like I was walking through a tropical rainforest.

The Victoria House
The Victoria House, with its gigantic water lily pads, was a breathtaking experience. You can find huge plants here, such as the Amorphophallus gigas, a species from the arum family, and the Amorphophallus titanum, also known as the titan arum. These plants can grow quite large. The water lily pads in the water are gigantic, and the water around them reflects everything, which gives the environment a special atmosphere. I also saw images of people sitting on the water lily pads, which shows how large they are. The Victoria House itself is sleekly decorated with lots of light, making it a breathtakingly beautiful place to explore.

Poppelsdorf Palace in the Botanic Gardens of Bonn
As I continued to wander through the outdoor area of the gardens, I felt as if I had entered a castle garden. The Poppelsdorf Palace, a yellow building in the Poppelsdorf district of Bonn, immediately stood out. It was part of the University of Bonn and added a historic touch to the surroundings.

An Educational Experience in the Botanic Gardens of Bonn
I enjoyed walking outside along the various plant beds, each with their own unique plants and stories. It reminded me of my own vegetable garden at home, full of life and diversity. It was clear that these gardens served not only as a place of relaxation, but also as a vibrant study area for students and researchers. The wide variety of plants offered many opportunities to learn and discover.
A Moment of Peace
After a day of exploring the botanical gardens, it’s lovely to relax on the lawn or under the shade of trees. The sun slowly setting, the soothing sounds of nature – it was the perfect way to end the day.
