In today’s VLOG video: we were having a shared dining tapas menu at Brasserie The Beachroom, located at the boulevard of Scheveningen beach, at the Strandweg 31a in Scheveningen. How many rounds do you think we could eat? Read further to find out.
We had an interview with Sander van Beek, one of the three owners of Brasserie The Beachroom. This was his second full year now in Scheveningen and he is really enjoying it. Here’s his story:
The concept: The tasting menu
It’s a little bit different than what most of the people know about Scheveningen. The most important thing that we do is the tasting menu. It’s a little bit like tapas deluxe. It’s thirty five small tapas dishes which are served like shared dining, so you can share it with each other. It costs twenty nine euro ninety for one person and you can eat just the whole evening.
Today’s special: Hollandse Nieuwe
Next to the thirty five small dishes we have some specials. Today we have a typical Dutch dish: the Hollandse Nieuwe, a delicious herring. People are really loving it. I try to renew the menu every two months. It’s also including dessert, and that’s each day a different thing. A little amuse as a starter is also different each day.
A place for the locals
I’m not here especially for the tourists, but I really want the locals to have place where they want to be seen. They just want to relax and I want to show them that what we do is like fresh things, service with a smile. The whole journey of visiting The Beachroom must be perfect. It starts when they come in and also the after sales. For me, “no” is not an option, all the staff and employees know that. I always try to think with the guests or locals for a solution if I can offer what they want.

The customer’s favorite dish
I think at the moment it’s the fresh tuna sashimi in combination with some seaweed, it’s a little bit sweet. We have some sweet and sour Eastern vegetables and some taste of soya wasabi mayonnaise next to it, so that’s one of the favorite dishes.
New dish: Mexican style taco
One of our new dishes is the Mexican style taco with pulled chicken and barbecue sauce. I think it’s also going to be a famous dish. Today we don’t have it, it is going to start on Tuesday. Maybe I can make it, I have to look in the kitchen and otherwise I will fix something. I think it’s going to be fine, because I’ve got corn in the house, I’ve got some sweet and sour vegetables, I’ve got the chicken, so I think we’re going to make something.
A fair price for drinks
I want to offer a fair price for drinks, that’s also one of my important things. Each evening from half past eight until eleven o’clock in the evening we have all our cocktails, like eighteen cocktails, for seven euro fifty. I just want the people to enjoy. Beer for the price of three euros, that’s a fine price.
Special bottle sleeves
I really believe that people want something special. Most of the bottles I have here, they all have sleeves. We have a Toucan sleeve, a Leopard sleeve and a Lighthouse sleeve, specially decorated by artists. We are going to have our own special wine. They come from Italy, from Puglia, it’s a Primitivo. I’ve spoken with the wine house over there. It’s for my three restaurants.
The employees test everything new
If I try something new and Iike it, the next phase is that the employees are going tot test it, because they need to promote it.
Sander’s message for you
I hope you will visit our restaurant. I can tell a lot and I can speak a lot, but just come and try and you will see what you get for a very good price. You will see what good service is for me. What we do over here is a little bit different than in the rest of Scheveningen I think, so come and try and I hope to see you soon.

TAPAS DELUXE
It was a warm summer day and we were sitting at the terras outside, with a nice view at the boulevard of Scheveningen. Every round we could take a look at the menu and choose the dishes that we liked to eat.
We toasted with a refreshing bright pink colored Toucan Cava with bubbles. My friend, who usually doesn’t drink that much wine, drank this one like water! That’s how good it tasted.
First round:
We started with today’s special: the Dutch herring on bread, the Hollandse Nieuwe, that just came out. We were told that, if we waited a little bit more longer, the herring would be more fat, but we were perfectly okay with this.
We had the Fish Cocktail, which consisted of shrimps, king prawns and smoked salmon with cocktail sauce.
Second round:
We had the duo of Salmon & Tuna, the Pepper Steak and the Goat Cheese from the oven.
We started to get a little bit full, so it was time for us to try out the beautiful swing that was in front of the Beachroom and we took some pictures on it. It was also a nice moment to take the interview with Sander, that you read above.
After the interview, Sander brought us to the kitchen, where we could watch with our own eyes, how the chef was making the new dish that would come out next week: the Mexican style taco. Sander showed us that the dish consisted of pulled chicken in combination with some corn and barbecue sauce, some sweet and sour vegetables; a combination of red onion and cucumber, some lime for freshness and on the side, some herbs. The chef told us that he put some fresh coriander on it, to add a little bit of freshness to the dish. To top it up, he put some red pepper as well, to give it a little bit of a color combination. The tacos were specially made for us, we had the primer. Even the employees hadn’t seen or taste it before, so we had the honor to taste it first.
Third round:
Sander brought the Mexican style tacos to our table and he said that the trip goes to Mexico! This is what we called a surprise dish, it was definitely a surprise to us. Even more after we tasted it, we felt for sure that this dish was going to be a big hit soon.
The sun was going down and we were still there, enjoying our evening at The Beachroom.
Fourth round:
These are the next tapas that we were going to taste:
The Poke Bowl with sushi rice, avocado, radish, carrot, wakame and salmon with sesame mayonnaise.
The Ho Lee Duck, a pulled duck with Hoisin sauce and Chinese pancake with vegetables, sweet and sour cucumber, onion, bean sprouts and carrot. We thought that the name Ho Lee Duck was so funny because it sounded like Holy Duck if you said it. We had to repeat it a hundred times and we couldn’t get enough of it.
Shrimp croquettes with a little bit of paprika mayonnaise.
Carpaccio Classic with all the trimmings; arugula, tomatoes, onion, cheese and nuts.
Fifth round:
Scheveningse Visvrouwtje and the Creamy Coco Shrimp.

Sixth round:
For dessert we had:
A chocolate cake with some chocolate sauce for extra, whipped cream with mint and also some watermelon.
Homemade bastogne parfait with caramel sauce and caramel cubs.
Raspberry cheesecake with some red fruits on top.
The sunset at the sea was so amazing at that moment, that we had to walk to the beach with the desserts in our hands, to take pictures of it, with the sunset in the backdrop. We had our own sunset dessert.
As you can see, we spent our whole evening sitting on a terras at The Beachroom, enjoying all those delicious little tapas deluxe dishes. We made it to the sixth round! (Including dessert). Like Sander said, you should come to the Beachroom, try it and see what you get for a good price. The service is great and the food tastes very delicious!
